Narcissus obvallaris - Tenby Daffodil
.
Common name: Tenby Daffodil
Family: Amaryllidaceae (Amaryllis)
Hardiness: USDA Zone 3
Life form: Geophyte (bulb, corm or tuber)
Usage: Ornamental
Comments: The Tenby Daffodil, Narcissus x obvallaris, is growing along Mulberry Row across from the Joinery and in two Winding Walk Beds at the end of the West lawn. This species was introduced to cultivation by 1613 and is now naturalized in parts of Wales. It was cultivated in American gardens by the end of the 18th century. The Tenby Daffodil is one of the earliest daffodils to bloom in the spring. It looks like a small version of our modern Trumpet Daffodils, with its head slightly up-facing.
